After the Founder’s demise, many members of the original movement were led astray by the false teachings of those who claimed, illegitimately, to be his successors. The Qadianis, as they are generally known, were misled by their ‘Khalifas’ into believing that the Founder was a Prophet and that he himself claimed (God forbid) to be a Prophet, contrary to the Founder’s own statements. They were even taught that anyone who did not accept these beliefs was a kafir or non-Muslim! The leaders of the ordinary Muslims retaliated by declaring the Qadianis unbelievers and outside the pale of Islam. Tragically, the Founder’s own statements were ignored, and it is a common belief amongst Muslims to this day that the Founder was (God forbid) a claimant to Prophethood. Maulana Muhammad Ali, however, a leading disciple of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, rallied all Ahmadis who remained faithful to the Founder’s true teachings and split with the Qadianis. The restored Ahmadiyya Movement under the leadership of Maulana Muhammad Ali was named the Ahmadiyya Anjuman Ishaat Islam Lahore, meaning, ‘The Ahmadiyya Association for the Propagation of Islam, Lahore’. The authentic Islamic doctrines of the Founder, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, Mujaddid or Divinely Appointed Muslim Reformer of the 14th Islamic Century, are today represented by the Lahori Ahmadis in opposition to the distorted ideology of the Qadianis.
