Volunteer Centre Sunderland was established in 1973 as a registered charity (702873) and is financially supported by Sunderland Adult Services and SIB amongst other funders.

We are also currently working with Sunderland City Council to raise the profile of volunteering and make people realise that if you only give two or more hours a week of your time to help others then congratulations you are a volunteer. (This partnership will involve many promotional events which will be posted on the events section of the website very shortly).

The Centre is a local voluntary organisation that exists to promote, support and develop volunteering in Sunderland and surrounding areas. We actively recruit volunteers from all sections of the community and place them with local voluntary organisations who are seeking volunteers to help with their work. We also support and advise these organisations on good practice when working with volunteers.

The centre holds a Quality Mark awarded by the national umbrella body Volunteering England to show that it meets its 6 core functions. It recognises the Centres achievement in meeting the criteria for Quality Accreditation and confirms that we fully meet the requirements of a Volunteer Development Agency.
