Carrie Jones, Welsh-born singer, songwriter and accordionist, well-known at one time as a duo with Adrian Postle, now a full time musician but based in America for the moment.
Until she moved to the USA with her now husband in Summer 2002 Carrie lived for a while in Cornwall, but was orginally from Tredegar, South Wales. Her Dad was very well known locally, singing classical/light music and her Mum sings in a local choir. In her early days she sang while her brother played guitar and also sang in Chapel. Teaching work took Carrie (aged 21) to Southampton where she visited a folk club for the first time at the Duke of Wellington, Bugle Street (then the home of The Anvil Folk Club, now the Fo'c'sle venue). One of the artistes Carrie saw at The Anvil was Christine Etterman who made a big impact on her. She also lists Karen Tweed and Ian Lothian as people she would "spend her bus fare" to go and see. Carrie is an accomplished pianist and can find her way round a guitar neck without too much effort, but after a trip to see The Davy Arthur Band and being impressed by piano-accordionist Greg Lowrey, she fancied taking up the instrument and finally bought one in 1995.
She and Jim Bailey co-wrote and performed songs (with third group member Martin Lee) as "Jones & Co", which then became "Bittersweet" with Jim, Carrie and Adrian Postle, performing more 'trad'-sounding songs. Her collaboration with Jim Bailey resulted in some really lovely songs/tunes. Eventually Jim went on to do other things and Carrie & Adrian continued as a duo.
She also writes dance tunes and played for Southampton-based Southern Lights Ladies Traditional Dance Team. Southern Lights musicians Barry Wake and Howard Bown (lead guitar, rhythm guitar, banjo and Bouzouki) occasionally supported Carrie at gigs (see gig list).
During the 1998 Fieldworks Productions tour (inc Salisbury, Whitby and Southern Ireland) she acted and sang the part of 'Rose Ealey' and assisted with the musical direction of Mick Ryan's wonderfully evocative musical drama "The Voyage". In November that year, she performed with guitarist and songwriter Barry Wake as the support act to Rolf Harris in Tredegar, South Wales (her home town). In January 2000, Carrie was presented (right) with the 1999 SCoFF Ron Myles Award, recognising that she has "made a significant contribution to the promotion of folk music and dance in the Southern Counties".
Folk on Tap accurately describes Carrie as having "a lilting Welsh voice" and "a (lovely) clear vocal style".
Carrie and Pete Luscombe joined forces during the Millennium year to become
